Schulz Air Compressor Model Numbers Explained

Schulz model numbers look cryptic: 7580VL30X-3, 10120VW40X-3, SRP 4015, ADS-50-UP. Once you know the pattern, each one tells you the horsepower, tank size, tank orientation, pump family and electrical phase at a glance. This guide decodes the model numbers you’ll see on the compressor label, in manuals and on schulzproducts.com, so you can compare units, find parts and order the right replacement.

Where to find your model number

Every Schulz compressor has a data plate (label) on the tank or frame. It lists the model, the part number (a code like 932.9369-0), the serial number, maximum pressure and electrical data. Write down the model and the part number before you call for parts or warranty help. Both appear on our product pages, and the part number is also the SKU we list on each product.

Piston compressors: how to read 7580VL30X-3

Most Schulz stationary piston compressors follow the same pattern. Here’s how it breaks down, using real models from our catalog:

Part of the codeExample (7580VL30X-3)What it means
Motor horsepower757.5 HP (5 = 5 HP, 10 = 10 HP, 15 = 15 HP, 20 = 20 HP)
Tank size8080-gallon tank (60, 80 or 120 gallons on most stationary units)
Tank orientationVV = vertical tank, H = horizontal tank
Pump familyLL = MSL pump (L-Series), V = MSV pump (V-Series), W = MSW pump
Pump size30Matches the pump model, e.g. MSL 30 MAX (about 30 CFM class)
Electrical phase-3-3 = three-phase, -1 = single-phase

A few more examples from our catalog:

  • 10120VW40X-3: 10 HP, 120-gallon vertical tank, MSW 40 MAX pump, three-phase. Rated 40 CFM at 175 PSI.
  • 580VV20X: 5 HP, 80-gallon vertical tank, MSV 20 MAX pump. Rated 20 CFM at 175 PSI.
  • 15120HW60X-3: 15 HP, 120-gallon horizontal tank, MSW 60 MAX pump, three-phase. Rated 60 CFM at 175 PSI.
  • 20120HLV80BR: 20 HP, 120-gallon horizontal tank, MSLV 80 “Bravo” pump. Rated 80 CFM at 175 PSI.
  • 360VL15X: 3 HP, 60-gallon vertical tank, MSL 15 pump. Rated 15 CFM at 125 PSI.

Tip: the pump family letter is the fastest way to find the right replacement pump, filters and gaskets. If your model has a W, you’ll be looking at MSW pump parts; if it has an L, MSL parts.

Compressor pumps: MSV, MSW, MSL and “MAX”

Schulz sells its pumps separately too, which is handy when you’re rebuilding or replacing a bare pump. The name tells you the family and the size:

  • MSV 20 MAX: V-Series two-stage pump, 20 CFM class, for 5 HP units.
  • MSV 30 MAX: 30 CFM class, for 7.5 HP units.
  • MSL 40 MAX: L-Series two-stage pump, 40 CFM class, for 10 HP units.
  • MSW 60 MAX: 60 CFM class, for 15 HP units.
  • MSWV 80 MAX: 80 CFM class, for 20–30 HP units.

Smaller single-stage pumps such as the MSL 15 MAX and MSL 18 MAX run up to about 125–140 PSI. The two-stage “MAX” pumps reach 175 PSI. Read our guide on two-stage vs. single-stage compressors for why that matters.

Oil-free compressors: CSV, CSD and MSV numbers

Schulz oil-free (oilless) models use the pump name plus the tank size, often written with a slash:

  • MSV 12/100: MSV 12 oil-free pump, 12 CFM, on a 26-gallon tank.
  • CSV 15 and CSV 20: 15 and 20 CFM oil-free compressors on larger tanks.
  • CSD 9 and CSD 18: direct-drive oil-free pumps, 9 and 18 CFM.

In oil-free models, the number right after the pump letters is the CFM class: an MSV 6 is about 6 CFM, a CSV 20 about 20 CFM.

Rotary screw compressors: reading SRP 4015

Schulz rotary screws all start with SRP, followed by four digits:

  • The first digit is the product line: 3 = Compact series (SRP 3015, SRP 3040), 4 = Dynamic and Flex series.
  • The last digits are the horsepower: 4010 = 10 HP, 4050 = 50 HP, 4100 = 100 HP, 4250 = 250 HP.
  • The suffix tells you the version: R Dynamic is the fixed-speed model, and Flex (often marked E) is the variable-speed model.

So an SRP 4015 R Dynamic is a 15 HP fixed-speed rotary screw, while an SRP 4050 Flex is a 50 HP variable-speed unit. Our SRP lineup guide compares all three series side by side.

Air dryers: ADS, SMH and SACT

  • ADS is Schulz’s non-cycling refrigerated dryer line. The number is the rated CFM, so an ADS-50-UP handles about 50 CFM. UP models run on 115V; UE models, like the ADS-220-UE, run on 230V.
  • SMH dryers are high-temperature models, built for hot inlet air. The SMH 50 is the 50 CFM version.
  • SACT dryers are high-capacity units for large plants, from the SACT 350 up to 3,000 CFM, on 460V three-phase power.

Size the dryer to at least your compressor’s CFM. Our guide to choosing a refrigerated air dryer explains the details.

Part numbers: the 932.xxxx-0 code

Alongside the model, every Schulz unit has a part number in the format 9xx.xxxx-x, for example 932.9369-0 for the 10120VW40X-3. The part number pins down the exact configuration, including voltage, so it’s the most reliable way to order. You’ll find it on the data plate and as the SKU on our product pages. See how to find the right part number for more tips.

Frequently asked questions

What does the “-3” at the end of a Schulz model mean?

It means three-phase power. A “-1” means single-phase. Models without a suffix are often offered in more than one voltage, so check the product page or the data plate.

Is the model number the same as the part number?

No. The model (like 7580VL30X-3) describes the compressor; the part number (like 932.9342-0) identifies the exact configuration. Give us both when you order parts.

How do I know which replacement pump fits my compressor?

Look at the pump family letter and size in your model number. For example, 10120VW40X-3 uses the MSW 40 MAX pump. If in doubt, send us a photo of the data plate.

Can I upgrade to a bigger pump on the same tank?

Sometimes, but the motor, belt, pulley and electrical supply all have to match. Our post on matching a pump to your tank and motor covers the basics, and our team can check your setup.

Still not sure what you have? Send a photo of your compressor’s data plate to info@schulzproducts.com or call (770) 734-6383, and we’ll identify the model and the right parts for you.
